Kendra's Miami Fashion Challenge

Today I have a fun post to share! Recently I was contacted by Kendra Thornton, who is a travel expert who has been featured on television shows like The Tyra Banks Show and The Nate Berkus Show. She regularly shares her tips on planning, packing, and numerous other aspects of travel. She has invited me to participate in 'Kendra's Miami Fashion Challenge'. Kendra is headed to Miami this summer and wants some help in picking out her outfits for this amazing trip!

Here's some background on the challenge from Kendra herself :

"It would be a great honor to wear an ensemble that you select! I am in need of some new looks while in Miami because I feel stuck in Mommy mode! We are headed to the Biltmore Estate, which is a very historical hotel built in 1926. The posh interiors mingle with original architecture and art from the early 1900s. I am so excited for this challenge and hope that you are too. We discovered this fabulous hotel through a site called gogobot . I fell in love with the look of the luxury suites. We are so lucky to be staying in the same place that celebrities and political dignitaries from around the world visit every year. The Biltmore has some fantastic amenities and activities like a championship golf course, spa, yoga studio and gourmet restaurants. My husband and I are going to spend a lot of time here in addition to exploring around Miami. One possible look might be something casual yet trendy to wear out on the green or walking around Miami. I just really want to look fabulous but feel comfortable. One night during our trip we plan on taking culinary classes at the Biltmore. The hotel has a new culinary academy with world renown chefs. We are going to cook some gourmet dishes and just enjoy spending time together. I would love to have a sexier evening outfit to wear for our romantic dinner dates. I think we will likely visit some of the night clubs along South Beach as well. I plan on taking a lot of pictures while we're in Miami. There are so many things to do and lots of sights that we want to see. The art galleries are my favorite, and we'll probably do a lot of shopping in Downtown Miami as well as check out Little Havana and Lincoln Road. I'm so excited to go on this vacation and get away for a little while. I am honored you're participating in this challenge. I truly love your work and follow your blog with every update."

It sounds like Kendra and her husband will be having a wonderful time in Miami!

Here are the looks that I've selected:

#1 - Golf Outfit: Kendra mentions that the hotel has a championship golf course and that she and her husband may spend some time out on the green. So I thought that this outfit would be a crisp and stylish look for a round of golf.

#2 - Relaxing Poolside: The Biltmore has a wonderful swimming pool and I think that after a day out on the golf course, it would be great to just relax for a while. For this look I've picked two looks that feature bikinis with breezy and comfortable cover-ups. The sun hat and other accessories will compliment both suits.

#3 - Sightseeing Around Miami: Kendra mentions that she and her husband will be doing some sightseeing and I thought that this outfit would be cool, comfortable and stylish.

#4 - Culinary Casual: This look will be a nice, casual outfit for Kendra to wear for the culinary class that she and her husband plan to attend. She will look pulled together as she learns some new cooking skills.

#5 - Date Night / Night on the Town: I chose three dresses for Kendra to choose from here. They're of a similar color scheme so the accessories can easily be worn with each dress.

I hope that she and her husband have a wonderful time in Miami! I'm sure that they will.

I'd like to thank Kendra for the opportunity to participate in her challenge. It was so much fun!

And to my readers, I'd love to know which look you like best. Please leave a comment to let me know!  :-)

Fashion Spotlight: Paul Fredrick Summer 2014 Collection

I can't believe that it's June already. Even though summer doesn't officially start until later this month, for me, once the calendar flips over to June it's summer. The arrival of summer makes me think of beach vacations, time outside, and lovely events to attend. It's wonderful to get out after the long, cold winter.

From the Paul Fredrick Summer 2014 Collection

I like looking my best when I go to one of those wonderful summer events and I love it when I'm there and see a well-dressed man. There's just something so appealing about seeing a man dressed nicely and doing it with his own personal style.

From the Paul Fredrick Summer 2014 Collection
There's a wonderful menswear brand called Paul Fredrick and they design, manufacture, and directly distribute a collection of pieces that help men to look their best. They offer great style options to their customers. They are currently launching their Summer 2014 Collection which features light and comfortable seersucker suits, unique patterned ties, and colorful dress shirts.

I love the vibrancy of each piece because they make me think of attending some wonderful garden party or wedding here in the English countryside where I live. The colors are so rich. Paul Fredrick also boasts some stylish looks that are good for the office and give men that extra bit of style as they go confidently into their day. The vast array of dress shirts are seemingly endless, so there's something for every taste.

Here are some of my favorite shirt and tie combinations from the Paul Fredrick  Summer 2014 Collection:

As I mentioned before, I love a well-dressed man. Whether he's heading into the office or to a lovely summer event, I think that Paul Fredrick can be a wonderful place to go to pull together just the right look!

The heidi klein High Summer 2014 Collection

A few days ago I was invited to the heidi klein press event which was held to reveal their High Summer '14 Collection and their new My Body line of swimwear. It was a wonderful event held in a beautifully elegant London hotel. It was a rainy day, but nothing could dampen my enthusiasm  :-)  I had the chance to spend some time with  heidi klein  co-founders Heidi Gosman and Penny Klein at the press event and they were very gracious hosts.

Some of you may remember my previous post about the brand and my interview with designer Heidi Gosman. If you missed it, you can read the interview here.

In 2002, Heidi and Penny launched heidi klein, which is a one-stop shop for all of your holiday swimwear needs. Their  first boutique was in the Notting Hill area of London. Two years later, the heidi klein collection was launched.

Heidi explains, "We set out to reinvent swimwear shopping into an exciting experience, whilst providing everything our customers desired in order to look and feel gorgeous on holiday, all under one roof."

They opened a second boutique in 2004 in the Chelsea area of London, and now their swimsuits and cover ups are sold in over 150 stores in 39 countries globally. They remain an independent brand and their suits are loved by their well-traveled clients. Celebrities such as Kate Moss, Sienna Miller and Jennifer Anniston are just some of the satisfied customers of this wonderful line of swimwear.

During the event we were shown various pieces from the line as they were modeled for us. I can't pick a favorite piece because everything was so beautiful. It was great to get the chance to see the various pieces up close like that. This really gave me a sense of just how well-made they are and how there is such care put into the making of each garment.

As I mentioned earlier, this was a showing of the High Summer 2014 collection and also the My Body range of swimwear. The High Summer collection had such a freshness to it and it instantly makes you think of going on a beach getaway somewhere.

The High Summer 2014 collection has a global theme. The styles are as follows:

Kerala (below) - which is inspired by the stunning sunsets of the Malabar coast in India
Puerto Rico (below) - which celebrates the crystal clear Caribbean sea and takes color inspiration from the teal of the water and the white sandy beaches
Oman (below) - which was inspired by the sunsets in the desert of the Arabian Peninsula
Ravello (below) - which brings to mind setting sail off the Amalfi Coast of Italy and there's inspiration from classic nautical prints
Laos (below) - which incorporates glorious shades of blue
Zambia (below)  - which is inspired by the lush tropical jungles of Zambia and features a beautifully bold print
Vernazza (below) - which comes in a lovely navy blue seersucker with rope knots and bows which brings to mind the classic 50's style
Ischia (below) - is a bold and beautiful hot pink design that just says summer
The new My Body range is a wonderful addition to the High Summer 2014 collection. It includes a collection of fifteen pieces which have been expertly crafted to give women the extra support that they desire. Here are a couple of the looks below. I think they're so chic!
Some of the attributes of the My Body range are:

*  Thick halter straps for lift and extra support for larger cup sizes

*  Underwire and side boning for support

*  Moulded cups for shape

*  Ruched powermesh for control on the front

*  For smaller cup sizes, there is moulded padding and supporting underwire

I came away from the event being really impressed with all of the swimsuits and cover ups that I saw. They were so elegant and the colors were so vibrant and yet not overdone in any way.

Heidi Gosman and Penny Klein have created an exceptional collection of pieces that women can feel good about wearing. The various pieces accentuate the beauty that's already there within women and helps them feel so stylish as they go on their trips around the world!

Please visit to find out about purchasing any pieces from the line.

Review: See the World Beautiful

See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,
Today I'd like to tell you about this wonderful book called See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke, published by Glitterati Incorporated,  with a foreword by designer Tommy Hilfiger. Let me tell you, I adore this book! See the World Beautiful is a beautifully large book of photographs from around the world that measures roughly 11x14 inches in size, which makes for an amazing photographic experience. For me, the sheer size of this extraordinary book lends itself to drawing the reader into a wondrous visual experience. Each picture seems like you're literally looking through this magical window into someone's life. Anne Menke is a truly gifted photographer because her pictures make you feel like you are there looking at these beautiful people. The book is the result of her documenting her travel to various locations while on assignment for magazines such as Vogue, ELLE, Marie Claire, and Condé Nast Traveller.

See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,
See the World Beautiful is fashion photographer Anne Menke's collection of beautiful photographs of indigenous cultures and it looks at their particular styles and the influence on fashion. This book is an interesting visual study of the meeting place between culture and fashion. For me it is a full on celebration of life and all the ways that we live on this planet. It's a study of humanity and the universal qualities that we all can relate to in some way as people. The photographer takes us to Peru, Kenya, Brazil, Mongolia, China, Argentina, India, Bolivia, Spain, Canada, and the USA (Alaska, Hawaii, Arizona, and South Dakota).

See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,
There are numbers at the beginning of each section of the book which pinpoint the degrees of latitude and longitude and the dates when the pictures were taken. It's a way of assigning a sense of space and time to each section as Anne Menke takes us to another location on the globe. However, there's a beautifully timeless quality to each image and you know that the beauty of each will endure for a long while and will not be affected by the passing of years.

See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,

As I looked through the book, I was enthralled by all of the faces and personal style from around the world. Looking at the smiling faces of children and the storied faces of the adults made me feel a connection that I can't explain. I just saw the beauty and the diversity and the joy that people exhibited as they went about their lives and their ways of being. I don't mean to get too deep, but this book really moved me and I'm so grateful for the experience.
See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,

I love what Anne Menke says in the introduction. It sums up her journey in this book for me. She writes:

"Beauty is Happiness, Happiness is Beauty. You can find it anywhere, but it helps to have a good pair of walking shoes and a 35mm lens."
~ Anne Menke

Everywhere Menke pointed her camera there was a vibrant expression of the rich culture of each place and how they adorn themselves. In studying the various pictures, it's clear to see how much these cultures have influenced the styles that go down runways all over the world.

See the World Beautiful by Anne Menke,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,
See the World Beautiful is surely a book to be enjoyed over and over whenever one wants to be reminded of the varying beauty of humanity or to simply enjoy some beautiful images. Those who love creativity and expression will also find enjoyment in the pages of this book. See the World Beautiful is the perfect title for this book because you can feel as well as see the beauty of our fellow human beings with the turn of every page.

Review: The Way We Wore: Black Style Then

The Way We Wore: Black Style Then by Michael McCollom,
published by Glitterati Incorporated,

Author: Michael McCollom
I was recently given a wonderful opportunity to review an amazing book called The Way We Wore: Black Style Then by Michael McCollom, published by Glitterati Incorporated, with a foreword by renowned culturist Geoffrey Holder. Michael McCollom is a designer and professional photographer. He was named by Vogue magazine as a designer to watch in 1990 and has worked with a celebrity clientele which includes Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston and Julia Roberts.

McCollom's book chronicles African-American fashion and style from the 1940s to more recent times, in a collection of photographs that is a visual feast for the eyes. The book is filled with men, women, and children who are dressed to the nines and the pages are filled with great style moments. There are photographs of  people such as Oprah Winfrey, Iman, Naomi Campbell, Tyra Banks, and James Baldwin, among many others, including the author's family and many friends.

1980, New York City.
Angelo Ellerbee, Publicist

1950, Hal Frederick, Actor
1960s, Riverside Park, NewJersey.
Tom Keetz, Account Executive
I've found that I keep revisiting the book in order to take it all in because there is so much cultural style history presented. I love the way in which the reader is given a slice of many lives as we see brides or fashionable women or young men dressed in their sharpest clothes. We are allowed the opportunity to relive a moment in each person's life as they pose for the camera at different points in their lives. This struck me as a universal experience. Whenever any of us are photographed, it freezes that moment in time and it gives the viewer a chance to look back and get a sense of a moment in our lives. That is why I think that this is such an amazing book, because it celebrates style and it celebrates life.

1969, New York City.
Veronica Jones,
Boutique Owner

The Way We Wore: Black Style Then beautifully chronicles the style contributions of African-Americans and how that style has influenced international fashion culture. There are numerous styles presented in terms of hair, accessories, and clothes of virtually every form. There are servicemen in their uniforms and women in fabulous gowns presented alongside those dressed in their Sunday best or in their prom finery. The reader is also shown people who are just in their regular clothes, which are anything but regular because they are expressing a truly individual style. As I looked at all of these beautiful photographs I couldn't help but think about my own collection of family photographs through the decades. I was reminded of how we're all telling a story of our lives through the pictures that we take and the style that we express to the world. Enjoying this book from cover to cover was a pure joy!

Throughout the book there are descriptions to accompany the various photographs along with quotes from different people of note. The quotes beautifully embellish the pages of the book and add yet another layer of expression.
May 1960, New York City.
Arlene Hawkins,
Owner of Arlene Hawkins Cosmetics

Michael McCollom has given us a chance to come along with him on this journey through African-American style and culture as he presents a sense of heritage and history with his book. We are transported from earlier in the 20th century into the era of hip hop style influences in the latter part of the century. The innovative African-American style is celebrated throughout this time in history in all of its full glory.

1968, New York City.
Renee Hunter, Entrepreneur
There is an elegance and a beauty to The Way We Wore: Black Style Then and I know that this book will be a favorite for years to come. It is a book that I highly recommend and I am so pleased that I was given the chance to have the experience found in these pages.
The Way We Wore: Black Style Then can be purchased here.

heidi klein: Resort - Summer 2014 Collection

Pictured: Heidi Gosman
Recently I was given the special opportunity to interview Heidi Gosman, designer and co-owner of heidi klein swim and beachwear, which has become renowned as the one-stop shop for the perfect holiday wardrobe and has two iconic boutiques located in London's Chelsea and Westbourne Grove.

At the Westbourne Grove boutique, pre-tanning sessions are offered at the in-store salon. The heidi klein swim and beachwear collection is also available at many other department stores, boutiques and resort locations across the world. They have many of the things that customers need in order to get ready for a wonderful holiday.

Have a look at this recent photo shoot of the Resort - Summer 2014 collection by videographer Jonathan Glynn-Smith, and featuring top model Le Call.

Without further ado, here is my interview with designer and co-owner of heidi klein, Heidi Gosman. She gives us some background on the brand and tells us where her inspiration comes from.

What was your inspiration in creating your swimwear collection? Are you inspired by your travels or perhaps things in nature?

The inspiration for our one-stop beach shop came when my business partner Penny Klein and I were out shopping for swimwear in winter.  We noticed that department stores don’t stock much swimwear out of season.  So, we opened our first shop in Chelsea in 2002 and the Notting Hill store a few years later.

The inspiration for each story in the collections comes from our travels to beautiful places around the world, and also for those places we have yet to visit. Also, for fit and styles much of our feedback comes from our customers in the stores.  Our customers are our best focus groups, so we always listen to them to find out what is working, and what is not.

What can women expect from your SS14 collection?

The current  SS14 collection embraces a modern twist feel this season, with sharp contrasts and bold colour harmonies running across both swim and cover ups. Geometric patterns flatter the female form suggesting dimensions and textures, earth tones are timelessly elegant whilst the mix and match swimwear lifts the collection with playful candy colours. The key geographical trend of the season is represented with luxury fabrics in restrained colours seen in the urban opulence of the steel grey VAMIZI. The fashion forward BELIZE with its clever geometric print sits perfectly with the chic mix of black and white in the CAP d’AIL and MONTEROSSO ranges. Exotic prints featuring feathers and animal skins are ever present this season, from the rich chocolate snake print of PERSIA to the shimmering jewelled topaz print of JUMBY BAY. The digital feather printed CAICOS with wood hardware is inspired by nature, whilst the intricate boho crochet of SEVILLE is a perfect foil to tanned skin. The vibrant brilliance of RIO DE JANEIRO perfectly sums up the energy of Brazil in its theatrical vivid fabric. The hot orange of ISTANBUL can be worn alone or mixed with the raspberry colours of JAIPUR inspired by the pink architecture of the City. The signature heidi klein collection ABACO BEACH is a youthful interpretation of the nautical trend with its new shaped boy pant and sporty nautical eyelets with white rope. For a modern sophisticated look turn to SETE with its horizontal stripes and gold accessories. Clever new shapes appear across the Swim Resort collections; the cross back padded BELIZE one piece is super flattering, as are the cheeky chic French boy pants of ABACO BEACH. Cover-ups feature a new jumpsuit in the gorgeous JUMBY BAY and the gorgeous handkerchief dresses in RIO.

Your collection makes us all think of going on holiday. What is your favourite place to go on holiday?

Italy is my favourite country to visit and I love Portofino.  I also love Ibiza and St Tropez.

If you were giving advice to a friend, what would you say are the essentials to pack when going on a beach holiday?

A few mix and match bikinis, a couple of lightweight cover ups, and a big hat and fabulous pair of glasses.

5) What can we expect next from heidi klein swimwear?

Moving forward heidi klein will be available in more countries worldwide, especially in department stores in New York.  Also, we will be venturing into men’s and children’s wear.

It's been a pleasure to feature heidi klein swim and beachwear here. The pieces are beautiful and have such a carefree look to them. The collection definitely makes me think of going on holiday as we go into the spring and summer months. Here's to a great summer for us all!
