The Volcanic Fallout

As many of you may have already heard, we’re under a big cloud of volcanic ash from Iceland currently and it’s halted air travel here. I really feel for the people who can't get where they're going, especially those unable to get to weddings, etc. But I think that it's definitely a case of better safe than sorry.

On a side note, it’s interesting to me that every since the cloud moved in somewhere up there, we have had some of the most beautiful blue skies that I’ve seen in a long time here in Wiltshire. What’s up with that? LOL. It has been absolutely beautiful and we’re loving it!

Today was the first day that we noticed a film on cars here in Wiltshire. We went out yesterday, into town and it wasn’t noticeable, but today you can really see it. It kind of looks the way your car would look if you lived along a dirt road. It’s intriguing.

Above: You can just see a slight film on the hood here

Hopefully it won’t get too much worse. Let’s hope not. In the meantime, everyone take care! Have a great weekend!

That's really weird...I was just saying the same (about the blue sky) to my friend down here just north of London!

The sky does look beautiful!!

Does it affect your breathing in any way??

It doesn't seem to be having any effect on my breathing but my husband is slightly asthmatic so we'll have to see....saying that though...'normal' London air is not all that great so I'm hoping that we won't notice a difference.

I've been following the story for a few days now. The airlines are loosing so much money.
I guess it's kind of cool though - the ashes - I mean. How intriquing that you have blue skies. I would have expected clouds :)
Hugs to you from cold & damp Ohio,
I.

Wow, I knew it was affecting air travel in France, but I had no idea that you were actually getting ash drifting down. Well, I guess you could collect it and use it in your garden. Hopefully, it won't get any worse.
Take care!

Although people were screaming for the ban to be lifted, I'd rather be safe than sorry.

We've had amazingly blue skies these past couple of days as well!
I think the sky is celebrating :)

We've been following this on the news and it's unbelievable the havoc it's causing in the airports. All those poor people! It's really hard to imagine you are having such beautiful blue skies. Loved the photos.

Interesting that you have such clear skies yet dirty film in the cars. I wonder what the effect all this ash from the volcano has on peoples lungs....

A guy at work was showing off a similar-looking film on his shoes the other day--it was pollen! Some seasonal allergy-sufferers are *really* suffering right now; I wouldn't be surprised if ash affected susceptible people in the same way, over time.

Or, it could be a miracle cure for all manner of stuff you didn't know ailed you! Who knows? It's been under earth for millions of years. :-)

Karrie,
Yeah, the blue sky is so unusual. I would think it would be more muddled somehow :) And you're so right about the London air. Thanks for stopping by to comment.

Alida,
No, it hasn't bothered my breathing really. It is just showing on the cars. It's weird :)

Ivanhoe,
It is interesting isn't it? :) It's wild to think of volcanic ash coming here from that far away. Stay warm in Ohio. Hugs to you!

Mike,
I remember Mount St. Helens too. It was bad. I can't believe it has been that many years ago now :)

Short Poems,
Yes, it's very interesting :) Thanks for visiting me!

Tahtimbo,
Hey that's a great idea :) Volcanic ash fertilizer! That would be cool.

Duni,
I'm with you too...better safe than sorry. And yeah, I noticed a difference in the sky yesterday when the planes started flying again. So I think it's true...before, the sky was celebrating :)

Mountain Woman,
Yeah, it's tough to listen to some of the stories. And the skies just blew my mind...it was 'spiritually blue' to me :) So clear! Hugs to you!

Krystal,
Yeah it's wild. Two things that just don't go together :) I wondered about our lungs too, but so far me and hubby are fine. I haven't heard of anyone having any problems, although they say that people with asthma could have a problem. I hope it won't give too many problems to people.

MtnGrl,
Oh yeah, I remember the pollen well :) That is so cool to think about too...a cure all from beneath :) I like that! Mother Earth could be sending us what we need...that's just like a mother :)
