An Engagement Revisited

Five years ago today, Brit Boy and I were engaged to be married. We were visiting Stourhead which is a beautiful estate in southwest Wiltshire. I had no idea that this would be the day that he would propose to me. I was over here for a visit and I just thought it was a nice day out. We walked around the main house on the estate and then we set out for a walk around all the trails through the beautiful gardens. There are several other buildings on the site that peek out of the trees. It's gorgeous there.

A small shower happened at one point and we waited it out under the trees. Then as we made it around to the foot bridge, the sun came out. Brit Boy coaxed me over to this bridge and as I was looking at this beautiful scene across the lake, while we stood on the bridge, he popped the question.

It was so lovely and the biggest surprise of my life. We both knew we were headed that way, but I didn't know it was this particular day. (smile) So Stourhead holds a special place in my heart.

So this morning, Brit Boy went out early to do an errand and I didn't go with him since I needed to study. Well, he comes back into the house with a big bunch of flowers for me to commemorate this romantic day in our lives. (smile)

What a wonderful day this will always be!

What a sweet memory and lovely pictures Dori.

You know how I like Stourhead too. It was almost a year ago that I arrived back in the UK on one of my multiple trips across the ocean and John took me there on the way back from the airport.

Not long after that he proposed on our special bridge near Helland. I wonder how often that happens on bridges.

I loved the scenery, the photos are beautiful and such a lovely way to get engaged. My engagement wasn't nearly as romantic maybe that's why I can't remember all the details. It's so great that he actually remembers the date and brought you beautiful flowers, thanks for sharing.

First - What a pleasant surprise to see you in my EC inbox! I was just thinking about the blogs I used to drop on more regularly when I was just starting out at EC last year, and that included yours. But I couldn't remember your blog address, so I was really happily surprised to visit again :)

Second - what a lovely place to share such a romantic and momentous event in your lives! :)

This was a wonderfully romantic story with gorgeous photos. My in-laws were from London and I have seen their photos as they tried to replicate some of the garden ideas here. It is a lush countryside.

Hi. I am an american woman from Georgia too! I am dating a fellow named Dave and he is from South Hampton, England. He often talks about his wishes to move back home and me going along with him. Although I love to travel, I have never been outside the US.. So, Dave suggested that I google american women living in England, yours was the first to pop up!! How do you like living in another country?

Dorothy L,
I'm so glad you enjoyed it :)

Rita,
It's great to meet you :) Small world isn't it? Wow! Well, I like living here and it's great to get to experience things from another perspective in the world. Sometimes I get a bit homesick, but with technology I'm able to stay in touch with those I love back home :) I would suggest that you maybe should come over with him for a visit and get a taste of what it's like here. It's a wonderful experience and I say give it a try. Thanks so much for commenting and let me know how it goes for you :) Email me sometime. Hugs!
